MAYOR AKDENİZLİ: “AN IMPARTIAL AND PRINCIPLED PRESS IS THE GUARANTEE OF OUR DEMOCRACY”
In a written message issued on the occasion of 24 July Journalists and Press Day, Seydikemer Mayor B. Önder Akdenizli celebrated the Journalists and Press Day of all members of the press who carry out their duties with an understanding of impartial, principled and responsible journalism.
Emphasising that the press is one of the most important elements in ensuring that society has access to accurate and impartial information, Mayor Akdenizli stated that journalists fulfil their duty of informing the public with great dedication.
Mayor Akdenizli included the following statements in his message:
“The press is the seeing eye, the hearing ear and the strong voice of our nation. As one of the indispensable elements of democratic life, our press organisations and our devoted press workers undertake a great responsibility day and night to ensure that the public has access to accurate information. All our journalists, who carry out their duties with an understanding of accurate, impartial and principled journalism, make significant contributions to raising public awareness and strengthening our democracy.
The local press, on the other hand, is one of our most important assets, forming the memory of the city we live in and establishing a strong bridge of communication between our citizens and public institutions. I would like to thank all members of the press who bring the development of our Seydikemer, the services provided and the voices of our citizens to the public for their efforts and devoted work.
With these feelings and thoughts, I congratulate all our journalists who continue to carry out their duties without compromising their professional principles on the occasion of 24 July Journalists and Press Day. I remember with mercy those members of the press who lost their lives while on duty, and I wish the entire press community good health, success and ease in their work.”
